Measurement Guide

4x6 Post Shields are designed to fit the standard 4x4 labeled post.  The standard 4x6 post is 3.5" x 5.5".  There are a few exceptions so please measure your post to verify its size before purchasing.  New treated posts are usually wet and swollen from the treatment process, but they will soon dry out and shrink to the 3.5" x 5.5" standard post size.

Post Shields, shield the base of posts such as mailboxes, fences, decks etc. They are 4 individual shields that join (slide or snap) together to cover and protect existing or new posts from string trimmers and other lawn care equipment. They install in seconds with no tools necessary and their visually pleasing design adds a luxurious and finished look while saving time and money on unneeded maintenance.

You can now affordably protect your posts and maintain the beauty of your home with Post Shields. If your posts have already taken a beating, you can use Post Shields to cover and immediately stop further destruction

1 Post Shields order quantity provides protection for 1 post.

Sizes can be deceiving

I bought a 4 x 6 shield. But the width is more like 3 3/4 and the length is more like 5 3/4. The problem is that I actually have a mailbox post that measures exactly 6 x4. So it was a waste of money and I couldn't use it.

Hello John, I'm sorry they did not fit your situation. We do have a notice on the product page for sizing information and a warning to measure before purchasing. Post Shields are designed to fit the standard nominal size posts which can be confusing when dealing with a true to size post like you have. We do have our Custom ClamShells Post Shields which we can make at your required size as a replacement. Contact us at customercare@postshields.com if you'd be interested in that option.

confusing sales info

i measured several times, ordered the size for my measurements and the shields don't fit. good product but hard to put together and then to find they don't fit...even snugly.

Hello Arleen,

Sorry for the size and fit issues. The standard 4x6 posts are actually 3.5'x5.5' which our 4x6 Post Shields are made to fit and confirmed prior to purchase. Sometimes the base of a post can be slightly larger or smaller on one side versus the other. This can cause the installation to be a little more restrictive.

We can offer a replacement in our custom ClamShell design in a slightly larger size for a better fit based on your exact measurements. Review our custom ClamShell page here: https://postshields.com/pages/custompostshields

Not as simple as the video

I ordered three of these for posts that get hit with the weed whip. The dimensions are fine, fitment is good. It's assembly that is next to impossible. There are no instructions. There's a video on the website where, snap, snap, snap, you're done! This is NOT reality. Getting the final two pieces to snap together is extremely difficult. Only one of my three sets is completely assembled. My next attempt will be to use a C-clamp or maybe a board and a rubber mallet to force the pieces together. And don't bother trying to slide them together, they stick halfway, and then have fun pulling them apart.

Hello Daniel, Sorry you are having troubles. If there is too much friction or the snap isn't as easy as it should be, you are spot on with using a rubber mallet for a little motivation.

We definitely want them to go on easy but also be difficult to remove. We don't want them falling apart but to keep staying strong for years to come. Sometimes that goal can lean one way more than the other requiring some extra effort during installation.
